Memorial Day Weekend Tiling...

Today is the day!

Today  is the day we start the last leg of fix up the bathroom! Woohoo! The end is near. Hopefully.

This weekend we plan on re-tiling the tub surround. Luckily, we have this three day weekend to do it and hopefully that is all it takes.

Today (Friday): Demolition. I actually do not like this part, it's messy and a pain in the butt. Bill has a half day and I have to go into work, so hopefully demolition will be done when I get home at 6pm tonight. Then we will hopefully get the cement board up and everything waterproofed.

Saturday: Tiling! With a side of afternoon grad party for my cousin. Hopefully tile will be completed that day. If we're done by the evening, we have a birthday party we will be heading to! *Crossing fingers that this will happen.*

Sunday: Grout! I actually really like grouting... It's easy, just a matter of waiting long enough to do so and then waiting long enough for it to dry to do.... (This reminds me that I need to check the mortar to see how long we need to wait to grout because this schedule may need to be revised...)

Monday: Sealing! Sealing the grout and the travertine tiles we will be using as accents to pull the floor travertine into another part of the bathroom.

Wish us luck! It's going to be a long weekend... especially since we only have the one bathroom. I'm very hopeful that I will be able to take a shower on Tuesday morning. Until then, sink baths it will be!

Ikea Ung Drill Update.

I get the most hits on here from my post about painting the Ikea Ung Drill frame. Awesome! I just thought I would give a short update as to what I've done with it.

My previous post just shows it going from the purple I painted it for my wedding to the yellow gold I painted it for my bed room. I had just left it empty for quite some time, trying to decide what to do with it. I landed on adding antlers. It took lots of searching for different ones, including deciding between choosing between fake or vintage real.

We decided on the Papier-Mache Animal Sculptures Small Antlers at West Elm.

They are no longer available, but at $19.95 for the small, it really couldn't be beat. We did have to decide between small and large. They only had small in stock at the time and it actually turned out to be the perfect size. So, below is what the frame currently looks like with the antlers added.

Better Homes and Gardens: Decorating Book

A couple of weekends ago, my sister and I made the now monthly trip to the hunt & gather sale (20% off everything!). I found this fantastic book and had to pick it up.

My brief Google research found out...

• The version I have was published in 1968 and I wish it was the one I'm seeing from 1956.
• I found it online from $7.99 (+ shipping) to $49.99. I paid $8 (was $10, but there was a 20% off everything sale).
• The general: hardcover, 5-ring binder style, 400 pages, 15 chapters

Home Sweet Home.

We made it home safely from our vacation in Mexico! We had a great time, but it's always good to be back home.

And today is our 1 year anniversary! Yay us!
